Dove Tree

Davidia involucrata
A highly prized plant that is sought passionately by dedicated gardeners. Dove tree is not only spectacular in flowering but also has plush foliage and ornamental bark. The large flower bract is large / up to six inches in length. The smaller bract is only about half as long. The slightest breeze causes the bracts to flutter, hence the name 'Dove Tree'. This is a small tree, comparable in size to Dogwood. For all its attributes, Dove tree sometimes disappoints gardeners looking for flowers on a newly purchased tree. They may not begin flowering until they are ten years old or more. Our trees at Woodlawn are about seven years it may be a few years...
